Inflammatory Bowel Disease
What is Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)?
IBD is a term used to describe Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis which cause inflammation of the bowel wall. Ulcerative Colitis causes inflammation of the lining of the colon and the rectum whilst Crohn’s disease causes inflammation of the full thickness of the bowel wall and may occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract. The cause of IBD is unknown.
How is it managed?
People with IBD will experience periods when the disease is active and not active, resulting in various symptoms which can affect what you eat and drink. The type of diet which you follow is important and you may need to make changes at different stages of your disease.
